Workshop on World No Tobacco Day and Awareness about Drug addiction A workshop was organized on world no tobacco day and Awareness about Drug addiction by the Psychiatric Services and Deaddiction cum Rehabilitation Centre, Baru Sahib under the Chairmanship of the Director of Punjab and Himachal Deaddiction Centres, Dr Col Rajinder Singh with Dr Harpreet kaur, Dr HP singh, Dr chhabra, Dr NL Gupta( clinical Psychologist), nursing college Principal, vice Principal with another nursing college staff, Ms Kiran Sehrawat(Psychologist), Ms Komal Rana, Ms Manisha Sehgal, shikha ( pharmacist), other medical staff and all patients on the terrace of de-addiction ward 4th floor at 1st of June 2020. Dr Col Rajinder Singh discussed the harms and deaths caused due to abuse of smoking or chewing of any form of tobacco. He informed that about 18000 deaths occur daily only due to this completely preventable addiction, apart from other heart or lungs illness. “In India, every year, more than 1.2 million people die of smoking and many more die from exposure to the smoke. The enormous challenge of India is that more than 5,500 children start tobacco use every day and become lifelong users. More than half of all tobacco users die from diseases caused by its use” Said Dr N L gupta. He also represented that tobacco consumers are more prone to get in covid-19.One patient from canada who spoke on tobacco addiction and its consequences which was very informative.The second day venue of the workshop was in eternal university, Baru Sahib on 2/6/2020. Dr Neelam Kaur( Principal of Akal Academy, Dean of Health science ,Advisor) shared the information about spiritual education where high quality of scientific education is imparted . The nursing college staff also delineated the information on “protecting youth from industrial manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and Nicotine use”. They also discussed the tobacco consumption patterns & hazards with 10th, 11th and 12th students of the Akal academy. All students who maintained proper distance attended the workshop. Lastly, the Anchor, Ms Manisha Sehgal thanked the Director and audience for sparing their valuable time for being in the workshop. She also thanked the organisation team for helping to make the programme successful.
