The first day of the *School Health & Wellness Program* focused on the holistic development of students & teachers through physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The session began with a prayer an introduction to health and wellness, emphasizing their crucial role in student growth.
Definitions from the Oxford Dictionary were shared, followed by a discussion on the key components of health—Physical, Mental, and Social. The concept of wellness was highlighted as an actively pursued goal for overall well-being.
Participants explored various types of health, including physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational, environmental, financial, and intellectual health. The discussion emphasized their interconnectedness, such as how physical health influences mental well-being and how social connections impact emotional resilience.
As per CBSE guidelines, schools must focus on physical fitness, mental health, nutrition, and health education to ensure student well-being.
To reinforce these concepts, several interactive activities were conducted. A Physical Activity Circuit engaged participants in skipping, jumping jacks, and yoga. The Healthy Snack Bite activity encouraged healthy eating habits through creative flashcards and discussions on nutrition. A Self-Esteem Building Exercise allowed participants to reflect on their strengths, while a Peer Support Circle facilitated discussions on emotional well-being. A Mindfulness Meditation Session introduced stress management techniques, and a Health & Hygiene Quiz enhanced awareness of hygiene practices.
*Real-life case studies showcased* successful initiatives, such as a “No Junk Food” policy in a Delhi school, which improved student energy levels and attendance. Another case study highlighted a mindfulness program in Mumbai, where students practicing daily meditation reported reduced anxiety and improved focus.
The session concluded with key takeaways: health is multi-dimensional, schools play a vital role in student well-being, and hands-on learning through activities enhances understanding. The participants actively engaged in discussions and expressed enthusiasm for implementing these practices in their schools. The first day set a strong foundation for promoting a healthier and more supportive school environment.
All the participants were actively involved in activities and shared insights to improve health of students.
Thanks and regards
