Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first vice-president of India and the second president of the nation. Dr Radhakrishnan was an esteemed educationist. When Dr. Radhakrishan took the office of the second President of India in 1962, his students approached him to seek permission to celebrate September 5 as a special day. Dr Radhakrishnan instead made a request to observe September 5 as Teachers’ Day, to recognize the contribution of teachers to the society.
Teachers’ Day was observed at Akal Academy Baru Sahib with the rest of the country. Various programs were organized by the PYP students to observe the day in a worthy manner to show respect and love for their teachers.
